Events

We encourage you to join us when we host any number of festivals, school orientations and educational events, all of which are open to the public. Please note, however, that we do request reservations for certain educational programs, as noted below. Reservations, or additional information, can be obtained by contacting Four Winds Waldorf School at 630-836-9400.

Enrollment Events:

School Tours: An ideal opportunity to visit our school and view Waldorf education in action. Small children welcome with parents. Space is limited, so advance registration requested. January through March on Thursdays mornings, 8:30 - 10am.

"Introduction to Waldorf Education" - Wednesday evening, April 23 & May 14; 7:00 - 8:30pm. Childcare available with advance registration. Please call the office to register.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A WALDORF SCHOOL

A perfect opportunity to experience a Waldorf classroom first-hand. Adults and children ages 6 and older are invited to participate in sample classroom lessons as well as special subjects. Reservations are requested. Childcare is available for children under six years of age.

SUMMER CAMP WALDORF STYLE - 2008

Since we had such a wonderful response to last summer's camp, we plan to offer these programs and more during the summer of 2008.

PARENT CHILD CLASS

July 1 - July 17
Tues. & Thurs.., 9:30am – 11:30noon
Six sessions for $100
Children ages 18 months through 3 years

Meet once a week with friends and enjoy our beautiful outdoor space through plenty of play time, circle time with songs, rhymes and stories. Instructor Christine Benton teaches Four Winds' Parent-Child class and is completing her Lifeways Early Childhood Training this summer.

EARLY CHILDHOOD SUMMER CAMP

June 16 - 19 & June 23 - 26
Children ages 31/2 — 6
Costs: 4 days/week - $1110/week, attend both weeks for $200

Special projects and outdoor time with friends…what a better way to enjoy a summer morning! Children will experience circle time, songs, stories and activities. Instructors: Oana Gabriel and Parvaneh Smith, both assist in Four Winds' early childhood classrooms.

DRAMA CAMP

June 16 - 20; 9am - 12:30pm
Costs: $115/week
Children entering 2nd through 5th grade

Participants will have fun experimenting with dramatic play through games and movement, and various ways to act out stories and songs. Instructor: John Keeney, who teaches third grade at Four Winds and has an extensive background in theatrical arts.

SPANISH LANGUAGE CAMP

June 23 - 27; 9am - 12:30pm
Children entering 2nd through 5th grade
Costs: $115/week

Learn Spanish language and culture through interactive games and activities, plays, songs and stories. Native speaking and experienced Spanish instructor Cristina Filicky from Argentina will share Latin American culture.

GERMAN LANGUAGE CAMP

August 1 - 15; 9am - 12:30pm
Children entering 2nd through 5th grade
Costs: $115/week

Learn about the German culture and language through interactive games and activities, plays, songs and stories. Instructor Daniela Palius teaches German at Four Winds and is from Cologne, Germany. She has also taught for many years at the Goethe Institute.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE & EXPLORATION CAMP

July 14 - 17; 8:30 - 2:30 pm
Children entering 3rd through 6th grade
Costs: $150/week

Explore and learn about the outdoors through hiking, cooking over a wood fire, canoeing, water exploration and more…. Instructors Karen Hays and Thea Olson will share their combined knowlege and love of the outdoors with an exciting week of educational and fun experiences. Suggested reading for parents are “The Last Child in the Woods: Saving our Children from Nature Deficit Disorder" by Richard Louv. Additonal costs for canoe rental will be required.

EARLY CHILDHOOD OUTDOOR CAMP

July 21 - 24; 8:30 - 12noon
Children ages 4 - 6 years of age
Costs: $110/week

This camp is added this summer to allow an opportunity for young children to explore the outdoors with friends. Drop off and pik up will be at the locations: Churchhill Woods, Warrenville Grove, Herrick Lake and Morton Arboretum. Camp is Monday through Thursday, with Friday as a make-up rain day. Instructors: Karen Hays and Thea Olson

CIRCUS ARTS CAMP

August 18 - 22; $115/week
Children entering 2nd through 6th grade
Costs: $115/week

Learn circus arts skills, such as juggling, balance board, acrobatics and unicyclng; ending with a performance. Instructor Tami Ordonez has completed a five year Spacial Dynamics training and teaches movement education at Four Winds. Angela Palmquist is completing her third year of Spacial Dynamics training.
