Our History

Four Winds Waldorf School was founded in 1994, when a group of parents interested in Waldorf education formed a working group to start a Waldorf school. In September of 1994, the preschool-kindergarten program was opened in Wheaton, Illinois, with a group of seven children. In 1995, we established a first grade class and have added a grade each year since then, growing to eight grades in 2003 when we proudly graduated our first class.

Over the years, the school has relocated several times in order to meet our growing space requirements. In 1999, we purchased our building in Warrenville, Illinois. Located on five acres of open and wooded land, Four Winds is one of five Chicago-area independent Waldorf Schools and currently the only Waldorf School in the Western suburbs of Chicago.

Providing for our growing school community requires continuous effort. Through the financial donations of many, as well as the vitally important “labors of love” contributed by parents and friends of our school, we have accomplished a great deal in a short span of time.

Four Winds Waldorf School is recognized as a developing member school by the Association of Waldorf Schools in North America (AWSNA) and is a member of the Illinois Independent School Association. The School is incorporated under the Laws of Illinois as a non-profit corporation and is recognized as a tax-exempt organization by the IRS.

Our school seeks to serve children and parents coming from a rich variety of spiritual, cultural, social and economic backgrounds. Indeed, this is an essential component of Waldorf education, where variety strengthens and enriches the spirit of goodwill and community. Four Winds Waldorf School does not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national or ethnic origin in its educational, administrative, admissions, and scholarship programs.
