Getting To Know Us
Choosing a school for your child is an important decision. As part of your search for the right school, we encourage you to learn as much as possible about Waldorf education and Four Winds School. Our educational philosophy and programs are significantly different from most mainstream educational choices—backed by time-proven success worldwide and cutting-edge child development research—but different nonetheless. It is important that you understand the underlying precepts of a Waldorf school and carefully consider whether they resonate with your own vision for your child’s education and your family’s values. This website contains a wealth of valuable background information on the Waldorf philosophy and the Four Winds community. We strongly encourage you to take a moment to read through the site and especially the Frequently Asked Questions for a quick overview. A monthly introductory lecture "Teaching the Whole Child" is offered by our faculty for prospective families. School tours are also scheduled monthly to provide on opportunity to visit classrooms and see student work. Please refer to our News and Events section for dates and times, and then contact the school to register. You may also arrange a visit through the Enrollment Director.
Application Forms
To begin the application process, please complete an application and submit it along with the $60 application fee. Transcripts for grade school children are requested from previous schools attended. If applicable, please include results of diagnostic testing or evaluations from specialized services. An application form can also be obtained directly from the school office.
Interview
Upon receipt of the application, parents will be contacted to schedule an interview with the Enrollment Director. This interview provides an opportunity for parents to learn more about Four Winds, to share expectations and confirm that Waldorf education is what they truly seek for their child.
Class Visit
A one or two day class visit is arranged for all prospective students. A critical step in our admissions process, the class visit provides your child with an opportunity to meet his or her teacher and classmates and to experience our programs first hand. Likewise, by carefully observing prospective students, teachers can ensure that our school can accommodate this young person’s gifts, as well as potential challenges.
Acceptance, Forms and Fees
Acceptance for both the kindergarten and grades program will be based on such factors as the child’s physical, social and emotional readiness, a healthy learning ability, and the parents’ willingness to support, at home and at school, the principles of Waldorf education. Upon acceptance for enrollment, parents will be sent an enrollment packet including a physical exam form, medical release form and enrollment contract. Students may begin attending classes when all forms are completed and fees are paid.
